bespoke trusses, oak, larch or Douglas fir, is one of our specialties, very common in barn conversion roofs, where the customer would like a vaulted ceiling and to keep the traditional look, or because of the building being listed or in a conservation area. there are a few types of trusses that can be made and have different purpose. We manufacture these trusses on our yard in Leeds and provide a sitting service, we also can hand cut the roof structure over our trusses
A queen post truss is certainly appealing to the eye. They have the most strength and use not just traditional mortise and tenon joints with dowels, we add a mechanical fixing in the form of a steel strap to create extra strength and also adds to the look of the wood. Queen post Trusses are generally used in bigger buildings and in some cases can be used to create a loft spacing for storage in the largest of buildings.
king post trusses are the most popular and cost effective, being strong, lighter and easier to fit and manufacture makes them a popular choice for clients. The shaped king post allows an area to join the bracers with a mortise and tennon joint. the design of the truss allows for no mechanical fixings. The benefit of these trusses is that if your unable to get lifting equipment to the building, or the roof is already on, you can take these in a kit form and build up starting from the main beam.
a collar beam truss is a complex and awkward truss to manufacture making them slighty more expensive, however they serve a purpose, when you are trying to gain more head room in a building, this is the truss of choice. As the rafters of the truss run directly through the beam and into the wall, the tie beam is raised up and joined with mechanical fixings gaining more room between floor and bottom of beam.
